Ever wanted to create fantasy themed forest that has illustrative qualities typically seen in animation and games? In this tutorial I take you through the painting process layer by layer painting trees, rocks, and foliage.
Totome is a beautiful, high-adrenaline little game for iphone & android planned to be released this christmas (with the success of this crowd-fund). The idea came from a general love of video games but also wanting to collaborate with different artists in the areas of illustration, music and animation on something small but potentially viral. Totome is designed to test the endurance of the player while also being immersed in the beauty and atmosphere of the environment.

Forest medley 1 SKETCHES
Sometimes its fun and challenging to take a simple premise of a “forest” and see how a little creativity and imagination can expand upon it. In this case where I was exploration ideas I came up with Giant lily pad based one and a giant mushroom variant. Nothing really original but again fun to paint up.
Some captured footage from painting the battle scene for Days of Dawn.
Battle map similar to what you would expect in a classic role-playing game like Final fantasy 1-6 or chrono trigger. So all the action will be taking place on the field below this illustration.
When I set out to create this tile I wanted it to have a hand painted quality. One that illustrates a lush pallet, wonder, and the vastness of the world. In a sense to have the quality of a typical Studio ghibli background.

A completed drawing for a book cover I have been recently commissioned for. The characters were created and designed by the author Anthony Briggs Jr. Feel free to check out his website here www.talesfromyod.com
I always like to get the drawing of a painting to around this level. From here i can plan the color pallet and lighting of the scene. Of course as a painting comes into creation, it at some point or another takes a life of its own and changes will naturally develop.
